There are various apps and platforms out there in the market, but none of them can solve all the major problems that freelancers are currently facing in one place.

SOLUTION

SOLUTION

Design a platform for freelancers that allows them to personalize opportunity searches, manage projects seamlessly, and track payments efficiently. In cases of overdue payments, the platform also advocates for freelancers' rights and provides support to help them recover what they're owed.

This is the first page freelancers will land on after completing the onboarding questions, and it serves as the app’s homepage. It provides suggested jobs and the latest job postings. Freelancers can also use the search filters to find opportunities that match their preferences and specific needs.

COLLECT YOUR OVERDUE PAYMENT

An initial, more amicable option helps freelancers collect unpaid payments from overdue projects by sending a detailed notification to the employer. If there's no response within 7 business days, the system automatically initiates a mandatory debt collection process, which includes identity verification and confirmation of project details. Freelancers can then choose between platform-administered intervention or support from a third party to claim their payment.

REFLECTION

Designing something closely tied to current social circumstances is both exciting and challenging. As someone who knows many freelancers and people transitioning into freelance careers, I believe a product like Intersect could be incredibly supportive and impactful for their future. It would be even more practical and meaningful if I had the opportunity to conduct user testing down the line. That said, even just working on a calendar-, infographic-, and job-finding–based product has taught me a great deal about the importance of accessibility and usability.
