HERE ARE THE POTENTIALS

"1 in 6 people are active journalers right now."

"22% have kept a journal or diary at some point in their lives."

HOWEVER…

There are various methods and products available on the market, such as traditional journal or diary notebooks and journal or diary apps. However, none of them fully align with the rapid advancements in immersive renovation technology.

INTRINSIC MOTIVATION

Every form of memory recording helps people relive past moments. The addition of new immersive technology (AR & VR) makes these memories even more vivid, allowing us to revisit them, interact with our past selves, or view them from a new perspective.

SOLUTION

Create an innovative memory-recording app for the younger generations with multiple recording options. By bridging the gap between traditional methods and modern lifestyles, our solution aims to help users unlock the benefits of memory recording without sacrificing time or convenience.

Home

Consider memories as something similar to time, something linear, constantly merging forward. Streak feature on the top left corner keeps the user more engaged.

Create A New Memo

Nowadays, people are always busy and often unwilling to spend too much time recording memories, especially when they need to capture something quickly. Instead of using traditional text entry as the default, I have chosen voice recording as the primary option.

Natural Language Processing (NLP) – An option available for users who want to keep a text-based record.

Decision Making– The transcribe button is created as an option available for users who want to keep a text-based record.

Daily Memos

Convenient for detail adjustments.

After clicking the date on the home page, a clear display of each day’s memory (memo) record.

After A Memo Record…

Understanding the importance of a balanced lifestyle, LOOMI allows users to record daily food and water intake. This feature provides a comprehensive view of users' lives beyond bulimia, promoting overall well-being.

After finishing a Memo Record, a display of other Memos recorded on that day will show up.

The user has the option to edit record details by clicking "..." for later searches.

In Memo Search, user can use filter to find out about specific Memo Records.

Memo Level – Instead of categorizing memories, I implemented a Memo Level system, allowing users to rank their memories as trivial, routine, key, or core.

Camera & VR Mode

In camera mode, the user has the option to photo record, video record, or use the 360° camera for VR recording.

Adding AR Elements

Option of adding AR elements to make the later VR experience more complete.

MEMORY RECORDING IS BENEFICIAL

Research shows that recording memories enhances mental well-being, cognitive function, and personal growth.

Journaling reinforces memory retention (Conway & Pleydell-Pearce, 2000)

IDENTIFY MY OPPORTUNITY

After conducting comprehensive research from multiple perspectives, I analyzed products that offer similar services in the market.

INSIGHT FROM COMPETITOR ANALYSIS

Although these existing products offer various features, the majority are outdated. According to previous research data, these features fail to meet users' needs, such as reducing time consumption and overcoming writer’s block. Most importantly, many of these products have privacy issues.

In 2024, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are increasingly integrated into daily life. For instance, retail accounts for 55% of AR use, enhancing consumer shopping experiences. Additionally, the global AR/VR market is projected to reach $30.7 billion in 2023, with a 46% annual growth rate, reaching around $800 billion by 2030. These trends highlight the expanding role of AR and VR technologies in everyday activities.

FEEDBACK FROM USERS

Total received 23 survey responses and done 10 user interviews with people who have the habit of keeping a memory record.

80% of user testing participants believe this app will make recording memories more efficient.
90% of user testing participants agree that the app can genuinely help them record more memories and even develop a habit of doing so.
90% of user testing participants said they would like to download and use this app.

Insight 1: Prefer to instantly see time upon experiencing it

"Once I open a memory recording app, it’s either a default text entry screen or a bland calendar page. Is that possible for the experience feel more engaging, as if it has been unfolding over time, just like my own memories?" (Jessica, 24, Assistant Researcher)

Designing an app that already has many similar products in the market is not easy. It requires extensive research to identify unique features not yet available in the market, which can make the new design stand out.

Create a design competitor research for UI elements design, to see the possibility of improving aesthetically.
Continue to develop the VR headsets.
Design a web browser and other versions of the app. Ensure there are no device limitations for users to access the app.
